01Exhibition documentation in New York

Gallery exhibition & installation photography.

We photograph exhibitions on site in NYC for galleries, foundations, museums and artists. Room views that show the hang, individual works in context, and details for the people who couldn't be there.

Installation views, $850 for up to 2 hours

The show, as it was installed.

A wide view shows how the room holds together. A wall view shows the relationships between works. We plan both before the shoot, with the curator's required angles on the list.

For a large gallery or a show across several rooms, send a floor plan and work list. We'll agree the coverage around your access window and the files your team needs for press, the website or the exhibition record.

One review contact keeps the brief clear. That can be the gallery manager, curator or registrar. It's easier to settle the view of the back room while we're still in the building.

02The shot list

From the room to the surface.

We agree how many views each room and work needs before booking. A long wall, a sculpture seen from several sides and a light-based installation each need their own plan.

For the individual work photographed square to the camera for reproduction, see our art documentation service. That capture is scoped separately from the installed views.

  1. Wide room viewsEntry and corner views that record the layout and sightlines through the exhibition.
  2. Each wallStraight, complete wall views that preserve groupings, spacing and the hang.
  3. Each installed workThe full work with enough of the surrounding space to show its placement. Agree extra angles for sculpture.
  4. DetailsSelected surfaces, materials and installation details, chosen with the artist or curator.
  5. ScaleViews with an agreed reference so a remote viewer can read the size of the work in the room.

04How it runs

Agree the views. Photograph the show.

  1. Set the brief

Send dates, a room plan and the works to cover. We agree the angles, access window, review contact and intended uses. Share your naming convention and any publication file specifications.

  2. Shoot on site

Once the installation is ready, we work through the agreed room, wall and work views. Selected details and scale references follow. Optional walkthrough video is planned into the same visit.

  3. Check and deliver

We edit and check color on a calibrated monitor against a color card in the shot. Your review contact receives TIFF and JPEG files, named by the agreed work, room and view convention. Standard turnaround is 10 business days.

05Before booking

A few practical questions.

What does exhibition installation photography include?

We agree a shot list for wide room views, each wall, each installed work, selected details and views that show scale. The booking is scoped to the rooms and works on that list. Individual-work reproduction files can be added as separate per-piece documentation.

How much does gallery installation photography cost?

Installation views are $850 flat for up to 2 hours, editing included. Send the room count, work list and access window so we can confirm the scope. Longer visits, multiple spaces, separate per-piece documentation and optional walkthrough video are quoted before booking.

When should we schedule the shoot, and who reviews the images?

Choose an access window after installation and lighting are complete, ideally before the gallery opens to visitors. Share any preview or de-install deadline. Name one gallery, curatorial or registrar contact to agree the required angles and review the delivered files.

Which files do you deliver, and how is color checked?

We deliver TIFF and JPEG files. RAW is not included unless requested. Color is checked on a calibrated monitor against a color card in the shot. Share any publication specifications before the shoot so we can agree the exports.

What are the size limit and delivery time?

For separate per-piece artwork documentation, works up to 72 inches on the longest side fit the normal rate. Over 72 inches is a custom quote. Standard turnaround is 10 business days. Rush delivery under 3 business days is available at the published surcharge. Agree any earlier press deadline before booking.
