Why we write it, where it comes from, and how we keep it honest.
The journal is for galleries, artists, collectors, and institutions weighing a decision: whether to hire someone for art documentation, event coverage, or branding work, and what that should reasonably cost. It's written for people who want the real process before they reach out, not a pitch. That means what a documentation session actually covers, what an opening night shoot looks like start to finish, and how pricing works across those services.
The material comes from our own shoot experience and our current pricing documents for art documentation, events, and portraits, along with what we've learned about moving through NYC galleries and studios on a shoot day: what a space needs from us, what a piece needs from the camera, and where the two conflict.
We keep it honest in a few ways. Prices referenced in a post are checked against our own documents before it goes live. We don't invent client names, awards, or statistics, and we don't build a post around a client story that didn't happen. Posts Vlad wrote or personally reviewed carry his byline; the rest are published by The Lightroom Studio.
Journal images are a mix of our own photographs, licensed stock, and AI-generated illustrations used for editorial purposes. If something in a post looks off, let us know and we'll fix it.
